Christmas Lights Spectacular at Hunter Valley Gardens won the coveted Major Festivals & Events Gold award at the 2019 Destination Sydney Surrounds North Regional Tourism Awards held in Newcastle on Monday the 29th of July 2019 and is now a finalist in the NSW Tourism Awards to be held in November.
Christmas Lights Spectacular is the only event of its kind and magnitude in New South Wales, providing guests of all ages with an experience to remember. Held annually from early November to the end of January. Christmas Lights Spectacular portrays the very essence of Christmas – bringing family, friends and loved ones together. Guests come from all over Australia to experience this family-friendly event, and for many it’s an annual outing with the whole family.
Featuring over 2.1 million lights across five hectares of perfectly manicured Gardens, the event is the largest light display in the southern hemisphere. Showcasing a collection of some of the most fascinating, engaging and interactive light displays, the 2018 Christmas Lights Spectacular – aptly themed ‘Tis the Season to Sparkle’ – had a total of 18 displays. These included a sweeter than ever Candyland, a five-metre tall giant teddy bear named Hunter who is carving out a career as an Insta-celebrity, an animatronic Santa’s Workshop, a giant walk-through bauble, family-friendly rides including a 25m Ferris Wheel and Venetian Carousel, activities, food stalls and more.
We congratulate our team on a fantastic achievement and thank them for their hard work on this much-loved event. However, there’s not too much time to celebrate as preparations for the 2019 Christmas Lights Spectacular begin in earnest in late August, with a team of up to 25 taking three months to set up the event.
Our 2019 event will be one worth experiencing, whilst we can’t yet give away all our secrets – the event will be bringing the wow factor to 2019 with new displays including a walk-through light castle!
Hunter Valley was, in fact, the most awarded region at the 2019 Destination Sydney Surrounds North Regional Tourism Awards, winning 5 out of the 10 awards on offer.
