The Oriental Garden

FEATURE GARDEN SERIES – THE ORIENTAL GARDEN

The Oriental Garden draws its influence from primarily Japanese and Korean gardens and is a place of harmony, balance and serenity.

This garden is precisely trimmed and manicured with natural curves making it flow among its surroundings. One of its main features is a two-story traditional Japanese pagoda surrounded by natural Australian granite and the pond is home to many colourful and beautiful Koi.

With the one of the largest lawns of Zoysia tenuifolia (Korean Velvet Grass) in Australia, some of the other flowers and plants include; Cloud Trees which are a native Lilly Pilly species, Syzygium australe “Tiny Trev” and “Bush Christmas”, Salvia, Liriope along with various topiaries which are created using Buxus japonica or Japanese Box. The stunning Japanese Iris or Iris ensata grows along the water’s edge producing stunning purple/blue flowers. Make sure you don’t miss the superb late Winter and Spring display of Azaleas, Camellias and Magnolias.

One of the best places to view the Oriental Garden is from the top of the Italian Grotto, one of the most stunning vantage points in Hunter Valley Gardens.

PEAK TIME – Due to the highly manicured nature of this garden it looks fantastic in all seasons, however late Spring is the ultimate time to visit.
